For blog six I chose to do a breakdown of Chris Daughtrys music video Over You. I will talk about some of Goodwin’s modes based on visualization of the music video. The first mode that I would like to talk about would be the element of illustration found within the video. This music video as well as the lyrics tell a story about a couple who’s relationship is falling apart before their very eyes, because of the girlfriends endless drinking. The video takes you through the couples various points in the relationship before the video ends with the boyfriend dying from the girlfriends careless drinking leading to them getting in a car crash. The video ends with the girlfriend in rehab.
The next mode would have to be amplification the visuals within the video add layers to the meaning of the video. The layers are the band playing inside a abandon broken down house which symbolizes the couples relationship falling apart. The video also shows various scene of the girlfriends endless drinking and the boyfriend trying to tell her to put the bottle down or embarrassed to be seen with her in public. The next scene is with the couple fighting in the car and the car swerving off the road and crashing. The video ends up with the girlfriend in rehab which basically lets the audience know that the girlfriend is falling apart and breaking down with the lost of her boyfriend. The lyrics represent a very clear meaning of the song, sometimes its better to just move on and getting over a relationship is hard but once you do your much happier.
All in all these elements come together to create depth and meaning to this music video. The visuals unite with the lyrics of the song to create a very strong meaning and to get the point a crossed to the audience.
